Enugu boils, as Seminarian, others feared dead over Fulani herdsmen attack in Ndiagu Atakwu , Nkanu West, Enugu state

www.odogwublog.com reports that suspected Fulani herdsmen, Thursday moring, attacked Enugu Atakwu community, in Nkanu West Local Government Area , killing ‎a seminarian of the Catholic Church and several others.

The seminarian simply identified  as Lazarus Nwafor was killed today and four other members of a family sustained  severe injuries  when suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked the Ndiagu Attakwu community, in Nkanu West local government area of Enugu state.

The attack came barely four months, precisely on Monday April 25,that some Fulani herdsmen unleashed mayhem on Agabi Nimbo community in Uzo Uwani council area of the state, which recorded scores of death and many houses and properties, including churches ibelonging to the villagers were burnt down by the Fulani herds men. Both the community and the state government are still nursing the injuries and quantum of loss aftermath of the mayhem.

As regards to the present mayhem unleashed on Ndiagu Attakwu community, The Authority gathered it was an early morning attack that occurred around two o’clock in the morning  as was the case of Nimbo community.

It was gathered the herdsmen first struck the Ogbodo Nwarum family of Ndiagu Attakwu based on unfair comments, the pregnant wife had meted on the Fulani herds men and their cows, when they passed through their compound the previous day.

The suspected Fulani herdsmen cut opened the ceiling of the living room of the family, to have gained access to the targets. Unfortunately, Nwafor, a seminarian, living in the compound as a tenant, who returned from his apostolic work the previous day, was their first victim. He died instantly from machete cuts he received from the suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Thereafter, they dealt with the man and the rest of his family, who slept in the compound before serious alarm was raised that attracted the attention of other members of the community.  Mr Ogbodo Nwarum received severe matchete cuts just as his pregnant wife, aged mother and daughter were also dealt by the suspects.

Members of the community, who came to their rescue immediately rushed them to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the seminarian was confirmed death  by the doctors on arrival. Mr Ogbodo, his pregnant wife who received a deep cut on her stomach and other members of the family are said to be recuperating at Mother of Christ Specialist hospital, Ogui Enugu.
.
Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who rushed to the community to ascertain issues for himself expressed shock over the attack. He assured that the security apparatus in the state must  fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

Governor Ugwuanyi said he had also summoned an emergency security council meeting of the state, to determine necessary lines of action immediately on receipt of the ugly news.  He  urged the villagers and other Nigerians resident in Ndiagwu Attakwu community to maintain peace as both the government, the police  and other  security agencies in the state must surely get to the root of the matter

Reacting to the development, an elder statesman  and a former secretary in the   old Anambra state government,Mr Nduka Eya, described the situation as very horrible, and blamed the continued incessant attack on communities by suspected Fulani herds men on the recalcitrant attitude and negligence  of President Buhari in taking drastic measures to redress the matter. He wondered if the people of the South East zone, whom their farm crops are being destroyed by Fulani herdsmen are still Nigerians.

His words,'I regard every Hausa man and Fulani man as a friend. But they cannot come to my father's land, after destroying my farm crops and I talk, they will turn around and kill me. Is President Buhari on the President of the North. Why has he not addressed the problem of Fulani herdsmen devastating people's farm lands and unleashing mayhem in various communities. Are we still one Nigeria?'.

As at the time of filling this report, the Enugu state police command is yet to react at the ugly development. Attempts to get the reaction of the state police public relations officer,PPRO,Mr Ebere Amaraizu on phone proved abortive.
