Crises in Imo as labour plans showdown against Okorocha

Following the directive that workers in Imo State will now work three days a week and a compulsory order that they should return to the farms, the State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has called on its members to prepare for a showdown.
In a bulletin tagged "Organized Labour Bulletin" dated August 1st, 2016, the labour body said "Imo workers arise and be prepared", further it threatened "the battle line is drawn, please await further directives".
The state NLC body led by Comrade Austin Chilakpu and his Trade Union Congress counterpart, Comrade Paul Akalazu commended Imo workers for their solidarity and support in the face of what they described as "severe hardship occasioned by some Government anti-labour policies and activities".
The union listed 15 grounds upon which it was aggrieved. They include: insensitivity towards the payment of workers salaries and pension to Pensioners; deliberate refusal of the State Government representatives to attend the government/labour Joint Review Committee meeting; and government's unilateral decision to pay May and June 2016 salaries despite the agreement that it will be paid after review of the January agreement.
Others include: Government's continuous payment of 70 percent salaries despite labour's demand for 100 percent; the arbitrary reduction of working days from five to three days per week which it said is in contravention of International Labour Organization standards.
Further, labour listed the State Government's directive to pay 70 percent of June and July salaries despite the increase in the July allocation of "a whopping N7.3billion, excluding Internally Generated Revenue and Local Government allocations".
Labour also listed the refusal to pay Pensioners despite repeated demands by the senior citizens; refusal of the state government to pay salary arrears owed law officers in the State Ministry of Justice and parastatal workers as grounds of offense.
Continuing the Imo State Organised Labour listed the refusal by government to recall suspended Directors in the Ministry of Justice and Board of Internal Revenue; unacceptable redeployment of workers of Owerri Capital Development, Adapalm and Board of Internal Revenue.
The labour leaders alleged victimization by the government; the non-recall of over 200 illegally disengaged workers of Imo Transport Company (ITC) by the State Government; and refusal to pay check-off dues to Industrial Unions since January 2016; and the continuous embargo on promotion of Imo workers as reasons why it was planning a showdown with government.
Workers in Imo State had on January 13, 2016 crippled the state in protest of the proposed sack of Civil servants by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
Meanwhile, Governor Okorocha has directed workers to resume work fron 7:30am Mondays to Wednesdays and go to their respective farms Thursdays and Fridays.
Further, Governor Okorocha directed that there will be no more room for casual or annual leave.
