Chime under probe by Enugu House of Assembly

Members of the  Enugu state house of assembly on Tuesday,August 2, resolved to set up a Seven man committee to investigate the total amount of internally generated revenue,IGR, that accrued to the state, between 2008 and June 2016, under Mr Felix Chime, the past chairman of the state  Board of Internal Revenue,BIR. .

The Seven man committee as constituted by  the Speaker of the House, Hon Uchenna Ubosi is headed by Hon. Sunday Ude Okoye, member representing Awgu North Constituency.

Others include Hon Philip Nnamani representing Enugu North Constituency,  the member representing Nsukka East ,Hon Christian Nwamba, the Enugu South Urban  legislator, Hon Obinna Okenwa, Hon  Nkechi Omeje-Ogbu, Hon  Ezenta Ezeani and Hon. John Ukuta, representing Udi North Constituency.

They were given thirty days to report back their findings to the house. The reason for the investigations stems on the allegation that the account  of the State Internally Generated Revenue,IGR, is still being tendered to the immediate past chairman of the board,Mr Felix Chime,even while he is out of office, aided by some principal staff of the board,loyal to him.


In a petition to the house on Tuesday,  by Hon Obinna Okenwa, member Representing Enugu South Urban Constituency, stating  the House has received petitions from members of the public alleging that the former chairman of the Board Of Internal Revenue, Mr Felix Chime and other principal officers of the Board had continually diverted the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) between 2008 and June 2016 into their private pockets.


Barrister Okenwa lamented that the alleged diversion had further worsened the economy of the State and  prayed the House to investigate as a matter of urgency, the activities of the Board between 2008 and June 2016 with a view to recovering the stolen money.
His petition was generally accepted by the house members present at the sitting,Subsequent upon which the Speaker,Hon Edward Ubosi appointed the seven man committee.
