IMSU LECTURERS SUSPEND 3 MONTHS OLD STRIKE

Three months after it embarked on an indefinite strike, lecturers of Imo State University Owerri, (IMSU) on Wednesday called off the strike action.
The lecturers operating under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, IMSU chapter had on March 21, embarked on an indefinite strike action following  the backlog of salaries and allowances owed them by the state Government.
On Wednesday, the Senate and the Governing Council of the Institution met on the campus wherein the lecturers agreed that it was appropriate and in the best interest of the citadel of learning for the protracted industrial action to be suspended immediately.
A lecturer in the University who pleaded annonymity said that they suspended the strike after the Government had paid them their salaries up to May and met their other demands.
He disclosed that the Government and the lecturers agreed to set up a technical committee which will look into the funding of the University so as to ensure academic excellence and productivity.
The State Government had on Sunday on social media, announced that the strike had been called off, now confirmed by the IMSU ASUU members.
With the development, undergraduates are expected to get ready to resume learning.
