Nigerians running out of patience, PPA tells Buhari

Worried by the worsening economic situation in the country, the  Abia State Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance ( PPA), Chief Emeka Okafor, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly roll out his plans to cushion the bitting effects on the citizenry to avert a possible revolution.

Okafor who made the assertion in an exclusive interview with The Authority in Umuahia, regretted that the economic hardship in Nigerian had  been on the increase with no sign of abating since Buhari came  on board.

He warned that unless something urgent was done to re- fix the economy and restore the hope of many disenchanted Nigerians, the country might be headed for a civil disobedience.

His words : " For  now, I don't really know what is happening. President Muhammadu Buhari may have his plans but i want to advise him that Nigerians are disenchanted for now. If he has any good plans he should begin to unfold them in the interest of national peace because a hungry man has no respect for anybody.

"No father or any parent can be looking at the face of his child and the child is dying and you are saying we are planning. Before now, Nigeria's power generation capacity was over 5000 megawatts, but now it has dropped to as low as 2000 megawatts."

He also called on the Buhari not to jettison the transformational policies of ex- President Goodluck Jonathan in the agricultural sector, saying that much was achieved under the former President in the critical sector which should not be sacrificed on the alter of politics.

" Buhari should also continue with  Jonathan's transformations in the agricultural sector. For now we haven't seen any positive change in that critical sector. The problem of Nigeria is policy summersault."

Asked if he foresees Nigeria surviving its numerous challenges especially in the face of the renewed agitation for Biafra republic, insurgency in the North, and the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta, the PPA boss called for caution.

"I don't see Nigeria moving forward in the face of all these because no investor can come in where there is insecurity and political tension. We are talking about the drop in oil price and now blowing up of oil pile lines. Nigeria may not survive all these unless something urgent is done to fix them.

"The way i am looking at politics and politicians in Nigeria, if we are not careful, the predictions by some soothsayers that Nigeria might not go beyond 100 years may come true. Since the Yorubas do not want the Igbos to succeed , and the Igbos are looking at the Hausas with suspicion, if you ask me, we have to go back to the drawing board".
