It became a herculean task for the members of the board to ransack through all the applications of the contractors in one day and decided that the exercise will continue today,  which is one of the measures to ensuring that the due process is implemented.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on Budget Monitoring and Due process to the Enugu state Governor,  Mr. Sylvanus Onoima, cautioned that the  has gone when government contracts are given to a select few,  who often  collects money and  do  shoddy jobs.

He stressed that it is the directive of Governor Ugwuanyi  that henceforth  Enugu citizens should be invited to participate in bidding process in every government contract,  as the government  of the   state in times past, was  cheated  by contractors who only collect money and either abscond or carryout shoddy jobs to the detriment of Enugu people.

“This government has a philosophy of due process in everything the government does in accordance with the procurement act of the Enugu state. So many projects have been awarded and nothing happened and children are sitting on the ground'.

Earlier in her opening address, the Acting Chairman/ Permanent Secretary ENSUBEB, Mrs. Rose Chiama commended Governor Ugwuanyi for  giving approval for the projects, stating it will impact positively on school children in the state.

She stated,  'Education empowers generations and I believe that when we invest through education in our children, we leave lasting impacts that will survive seasons and times'.

“To ensure that our children get the best, the governor has graciously approved the erection of new blocks, renovation of old and dilapidated structures and ensuring that every child of school age receives full access to quality basic education under the right conducive environment.

“This according to the governor, will amount to the child’s all round development into a responsible and self-reliant citizen”.

Mrs. Chiama who said a total of 1,435 contractors submitted their tenders for the various contracts which amounts to N3 billion, however, urged the contractors for their support to achieve the best result.
