Unemployment : Ex-Rep member , Odikpo Mmadubueze , University don advocate for skill acquisition

A former member of House of Representatives, Chief Ralph Okeke, and a university don,  Prof. Robert Nneli , have  advocated  compulsory skill acquisition for the youths as a panacea for the growing unemployment in the country

Prof. Nneli of  University of  Ndufu - Alike in  Ebonyi State  in his paper  presented at the Ajandu hall Umueze Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area of Anamnra State particularly called on governments at all levels to initiate skills acquisition programme across the State to end unemployment  prob;em  in the country.

He, however, pointed out that the rate of unemployment in  the country was  quite alarming and therefore  demoralizing  but he encouraged  youths to  avail themselves of the opportunity  of going to school  despite the incontrovertible fact that there are no jobs in Nigeria.

The professor of Physiology  however  stressed the need for every  man  to learn a skill instead of a job, arguing that a man with  "good hand work" would never go hungry but a man with a white collar job could starve..

The  former House of Representative member representing Oyi/Anambra West Federal Constituency, who was the chairman of the occassion joined in the call for the youths of today to be versatile by both going to school and learning skills.

He also stressed  the need for people to play politics with the  fear of God remarking however that  Nigerians should learn how to play politics of not  blackmailing others as well as enjoined the people of Anambra West Local Local Government Area to respect their politicians and leaders to encourage  them to attract democracy dividend to them.

The Editor  of The Niger Times Newspaper, Odikpo Mmadubueze who  also delivered a Paper  at the event  noted with disappointment that  young people in the area  do not  take education serious these days, warning that it will spell doom for them in future if f the trend does not chang.

He wondered that .people feel complacent over serious  social vices as  "impatience, stealing, hooliganism  and general crime and criminlity" that  are prevalent among the youths. of today.

Mmadubueze maintained that it was yet the duty of parents to  inculcate the fear of God and the virture of  hard work in their Children. charging  the elites to refrain from displaying " callous and discouraging attitude towards the future of the youths".
