The activities of the Pro Biafran groups, Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB are the major threats and risks to the Anambra State Police Command, says the State Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Karma.
Making the disclosure yesterday at the Command’s headquarters in Amawbia when the team of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Police Affairs and Security paid him a courtesy visit, Mr. Karma also identified herdsmen/indigenous farmers clashes, Chieftaincy/Presidents-General dispute, intra religious conflict and inter-state boundary conflicts as other risk factors in the State.
The Commissioner of Police, while thanking the lawmakers for making positive laws in the state that aide security agencies in combating crime and criminalities also emphasised that the synergy among the security agencies and the government that the state government established in the State is second to none.
“I want to thank you immensely for the positive laws and appropriation in the area of security. Without your input, the House of Assembly wouldn’t have passed those good laws that are useful for our operation in the State, we want you to sustain the tempo.
“Today, Anambra is regarded as one of the best States in the area of security and investors are flourishing the State. Today, House members can go to clubs without asking for security and the good people of Anambra state have leant how to be law abiding” he said.
Karma, however disclosed to the legislators that the command has succeeded in containing violent crimes in the state to the barest minimum but identified inadequate manpower, logistics and shortage of police drivers as the command’s challenges.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Victor Okoye said the essence of their visit is to familiarise with the command and identify areas of their needs that will help them make informed laws.
Hon. Okoye who flanked with other members expressed satisfaction over the command’s achievements and modus operandi, adding that the reason for the visit was to form synergy that aims at promoting peace and stability in the State.
