Enugu Auditor , Stephen Ogbobe paid Fulani Herdsmen N700,000 to regain freedom

The Enugu State  Police Command yesterday  confirmed that  Mr Stephen Ogbobe, an auditor with  Enugu State government, who was abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Saturday along Nsukka/Adani road, has been released..

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer,PPRO, Mr  Ebere Amarizu,DSP, confirmed, stating his release was necessitated by the serious pressure  mounted on the abductors by police and local vigilante group in Uzo-Uwani. .

Amaraizu said no ransom was paid and the man has reunited with his family. members.

His words, “I can tell you authoritatively that Ogbobe who was kidnapped on
 Saturday along Nsukka/ Adani road has regained his freedom and has
been reunited with his family members'.

‘No ransom was paid as  his release was a result of pressure and combing
 of bush in  the area he was kidnapped by police and vigilant group.

“The police will continue to ensure adequate protection of lives and
property in the state'.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Uzo Uwani local government area,  Mr Cornell Onwubuya also confirmed the release  the abducted auditor while talking to news men at Nsukka.  He  expressed
appreciation to Nsukka Area Command, Adaini Police station of Nigerian
police and the local vigilante group for mounting heated  pressure on
the kidnappers that lead to the release of  Ogbobe

However, a close family source who pleaded anonymity disclosed  that they paid
a ransom of N700, 000  before the kidnapped state
auditor was released by his abductors.

He lamented,' “In their first call the abductors demanded N5m and later on Monday
they demanded N1.5m and finally pegged the ransom at N700, 000.
“The ransom of N700, 000 was dropped at Amokwu Affa  juction in Udi
local government area of the state,

The family source said that Ogbobe is currently receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in Nsukka town, having passed four nights in the bush with his abductors.

It would be recalled that, Ogbobe was kidnapped by suspected Fulani
herdsmen on Saturday, April 16, along Nsukka /Adani road while
returning to Nsukka town after attending a village meeting at Ukpabi
in Uzo-Uwani local government area.
