Peter Obi is PDP Senatorial candidate for Anambra central, as INEC scatters Umeh, APGA plan to win Anambra Central senatorial zone

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has scattered the plans of Chief Victor Umeh, former APGA National Chairman and senatorial candidate of APGA for Anambra central senatorial zone election billed for this Saturday. Again sleepless nights have gripped APGA as PDP selected former Governor Peter Obi to be its senatorial candidate even though he is still doing shakara. INEC then postponed the Saturday’s senatorial re-run election for Anambra central indefinitely.
This, according to the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Lawrence Azubuike, followed the court order received by the commission yesterday.
The electoral umpire, announced this yesterday at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development centre in Awka, Anambra state, during the stakeholders meeting with political parties.
Meanwhile, former Governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi is set to grab the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party for the senatorial election, following the Federal High Court Abuja order on Monday.
The Federal High Court ruled on Monday that PDP had every right to contest the re-run senatorial election in the state.
The court order, followed the petitions from the All Progressives Congress (APC), PDP, ADC, and others calling for the postponement of the election.
Reacting on the development yesterday, former commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike, who was Governor Willie Obiano’s campaign Director General, described the postponement as a welcomed one.
He hinted that PDP heavy weights and members had been mounting pressure on Obi to contest the senatorial election, adding that the former governor had no option but to oblige.
Already, he said that PDP had conducted its primaries and waiting for INEC to come out with the list of the contestants for the election.
Also, the Anambra state chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Hon. Sam Oraegbunam, said yesterday that the postponement of the election by INEC came at the right time, adding that the parties had longed for it.
But the state chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sir Norbert Obi, said the postponement would not deter his party from being victorious anytime INEC was ready for the election.
The bombshell by the INEC had halted the progress already made by the former national chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, who was at the verge of being a sole candidate for the central senatorial re-run election.
Since the purported ban of APC and PDP, Umeh had been the only candidate campaigning, vowing to rick the senatorial slot for the central zone come March 5, 2015.
According to Chief Joe Martins Uzodike “PDP is yet to submit its list, but everybody including myself (Uzodike) is urging Peter Obi to come out to save PDP in the central zone”
For APC, the decision of INEC was a right step in the right direction.
The state secretary of the party, Mr. Chukwuma Agufugo
