Anambra Central: Why Court orders INEC to include PDP in re-run

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the fresh election for Anambra Central Senatorial District.
Justice Anwuli Chikere today also set aside INEC’s ‘Public Notice: INEC/SEC/314’ of 1st February, 2016 which excluded the PDP and its candidate from participating in the court-ordered fresh election for the Anambra Central Senatorial District for National Assembly.
The judge also upheld the affidavit of the PDP, and ordered it to substitute its candidate for the election.
The party stated that Uche Ekwunife, its former candidate for the March 28, 2015 election, had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the nullification of her election by an Appeal Court in Enugu which also ordered a re-run within 90 days.
in a related development, Elombah.com just gathered that INEC has postponed the Anambra central senatorial election indefinitely.
According to unofficial source, former state Governor Peter Obi reportedly secured court order restraining INEC from not allowing him and his party (PDP) to run for the Senate in the Anambra Central rerun.
It may be recall that prior to this latest development, Chief Victor Umeh of APGA was almost going on opposed due to what many sees as moves in alliance with some INEC officials to stop major political parties and strong candidates from contesting with Chief Victor Umeh.
