True Confession of a trafficked Lady: ‘’I watched 50 men have sex with one girl in a day’’ ----and ‘’I drank female urine to survive in the desert’’

A male Human trafficking survivor, Pastor Elvis Okolie, shocked traders at Onitsha main market Anambra state when he narrated his ordeals and ordeals of his colleagues that were victims of Human Trafficking.
Pastor Okolie who said he returned back to Nigeria as a semi lunatic after falling victim of human trafficking in the desert to the traders, explained how 38 passengers were abandoned at the desert to perish by desert guides after their vehicle broke down.

He also described his survival as miracle being the only survivor out of  the trio that left together on the trip alleging that the traffickers coerce their victims into going with them on the trip with the promise of greener pasture abroad only to kidnap them and keep them under torture.

His words: “Only God saved me from that journey as we suffered greatly. The men among us depend on the urine of the female counterparts for survival at the desert and at Europe, they lock our girls in a room and force them to have sex with several men in order to make money.
“In a day, 50 people will have sex with one girl. They cue up for the marathon on the girl and these men collect the money” an action he described as barbaric and wicked and enjoined all to know that there is no money on the streets of Europe.

This narrative happened when an Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking and Community Development Initiative, INTACOM Africa, led by its Founder Hope Nkiruka Okoye carried an awareness campaign to Onitsha Main Market  on the dangers of Human Trafficking and sojourning to Europe for greener pastures through the desert.
The campaign attracted over 3,000 traders who listened to the testimonies of the survivors of the human trafficking. There was also an interdenominational service.

The campaign commenced from Nkisi palace Onitsha with a road show through Ose Okwodu Market to the popular Onitsha Main market where traders were already waiting for the team that was led by the founder of  INTACOM AFRICA, Okoye Hope.
The traders questioned the reason behind living the shores of Nigeria to engage in prostitution or organ transplant abroad.
In her speech, the founder of INTACOM Africa,  Okoye Hope Nkiruka explained that the visit to the market was a grass-root awareness campaign that was funded by the European Union, EU under the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime, UNODC   National Agency for Prohibition and Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP grant component two, adding that the her organization is  partnering with the leadership of Onitsha Main Market as a community to create awareness and sensitize the people on issue of human trafficking and smuggling of migrants.

Okoye Hope Nkiruka also enjoined the Nigerian government to be more responsive to the people and make the environment more conducive for the people so they would not have reasons to be leaving the country en masse.

Her words: “We are losing our young men and women in their thousands in the desert and the Mediterranean Sea, because they want to get to Europe by all means. If they are not able to get visa, you will see people posing as agents, who are really traffickers, taking advantage of their vulnerability to use them as a commodity.”

Also Speaking, a Catholic priest, Rev. Father Patrick Aniere who based in Rome, identified poor economy as the cause of the mass exodus of Nigerian youths, adding that the problem of unemployment and economic crunch is a global one while regretting how these youths have ended up in some prisons in Italy, UK, Germany and some other countries.
