Anambra central re-run: Prof Okunna tasks INEC to be fair, transparent and just to all parties-------says Nigerian Economy is hopeless

A Communication Scholar, and Head of Department Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof Chinyere Stella Okunna yesterday appealed on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be fair and transparent to all the political parties involved in conducting the Anambra Central Re-run.
Speaking to www.odogwublog.com  in her office at Unizik, Prof Okunna who is also the Director 94.1FM Unizik campus radio said with a fair playing ground, and a credible poll, democracy would be deepened.
This is coming as Prof Okunna , former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget as well as Information culture and Tourism in Anambra state under Chief Peter Obi regretted the collapsing economy in Nigeria under President Buhari.
Prof Okunna said that the Nigerian economy is in shambles and hopeless to the extent that a Dollar is over N385 as at the last count she checked, describing its as scandalous and unbelievable.
While admitting that the fault may not be that of the President as his government came when the government came, but she insisted Buhari should salvage Nigeria by diversifying the economy and ensure that oil does not hold us at ransom. She insisted that it takes superhuman efforts to turn back the economy already in jeopardy.
She said INEC should put up an honest effort to ensure all contenders have a fair playing ground adding: ‘’ I don’t know who I have confidence on. I reserve my comments about INEC but pray honestly they conduct a free and fair election. I wish them well’’.
Prof Okunna who is from the Anambra central senatorial zone admitted that there is a lot of tension on what the election would look like though APGA’s candidate formidable but was taken aback that as a country referred to as ‘’crazy’’ anything may happen before the election re-run date. She admits that it is still unclear for her even as a communication Prof.
On Governor Obiano’s government , Prof Okunna said it is too early for her to access the government but admitted the government is doing its best as it has its own style of governance.
She said as a government her administration with former Governor Peter Obi handed over, anything she says would not be understood on its context and therefore insisted that Obi she served as Economic Planning and Budget Commissioner among others was enthusiastic about what he believes in and nearly killed himself working for the good of Anambra people.
‘’I worked for a man who was enthusiastic about what he believed in and that is why he nearly killed himself as Governor of Anambra state ........he has his own style and vision, he achieved his mission and vision and the Governor we handed over Governor Willie Obiano has his own style and vision  and is working to achieve his. He has two years to make more impact and to be returned by the electorates for a second term or not. I don’t like comparing this administration with ours but what I know is that Peter Obi really did well for Ndi Anambra, we did well. He is a man who did well for his people and I have hopes that Obiano will do well.
On newly admitted Students across the federation, Prof Okunna charged them not to fail their parents on high expectations from them even though she pointed out people now enter the Universities much younger  and vulnerable even at 16 which is worrisome but assured parents all efforts are on by lecturers especially those with her at Mass Communication complex to ensure the students came out best in character and learning.
