Lionel Messi reportedly outbid arch nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo for the world’s most expensive car.
The Barcelona superstar, who recently underwent more tests on his kidneys, is believed to have paid a staggering £24.8million for the 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti.
It was gathered that the car’s owner Alessandro Proto auctioned off the motor to an anonymous buyer, said to be five-time Ballon d’Or champion, Messi.
Proto Organisation said a bidding war erupted between the Argentine maestro and the ex-Man United and Real Madrid icon for the vehicle, which Sir Stirling Moss used to win the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix.
The legendary car can reach 186 mph and boasts a V12 engine with 390 horsepower at 7400 rpm.
Its asking price began at around £15m but rose quickly, smashing the old record of £17.5m set in 2013 for the sale of a 1953 Mercedes W196.
