In a statement signed by Dr. Mrs Uju Nwogu, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism it regretted that incessant bush burning has resulted to loss of lives and property worth several millions.
The release read: ‘’The attention of the Anambra State Government has been drawn to the indiscriminate act of bush burning across the state by individuals and group of individuals who are either hunting, clearing bushes or burning bushes preparatory for the coming farming season.

‘’This unfortunate practice and the careless handling of inflammable materials by some citizens have also led to incessant fire outbreaks in the State.

‘’Government wishes to remind all Ndi Anambra that mindless burning of bushes especially in the dry season leads to uncontrolled fire mishaps as experienced in recent fire incidents in the state that have caused loss of innocent lives and property.

‘’As the Lassa fever disease caused by eating of infected rats and rats-infested food items spreads nationwide, government is worried that the continued burning of bushes  could expose the State to the deadly disease.

‘’Consequently, government  by this announcement, cautions Ndi Anambra to observe basic domestic fire tips like remembering to put off their gas cookers & cylinders and other domestic cooking appliances after cooking. They should also be mindful of how they prepare for the coming farming season by de-emphasizing uncontrolled bush burning and hunting for bush rats.
