Why schools lack equipment --Anambra ASUBEB Boss

The Executive Chairman Anambra State Universal Education Board [ASUBEB],Olisa Nzemeka, has identified insecurity and inadequate manpower as some of the factors militating against teaching and learning of some subjects in government schools.

According to him, most of the equipment delivered to schools for teaching of technological based courses could not be left in the schools because of insecurity .

The ASUBEB Boss regretted that in the past equipment delivered to various schools were carted away by robbers who capitalize on poor storage facilities in schools.

He added that as a result of this development, Headmasters and principals resorted to safe keeping available equipment in their homes and churches development that had hindered acquisition of knowledge and skills by students.

Chief Olisa, however stated that the policy of localization of teachers appeared to be yielding expected result as teachers were now meant to teach in their communities of origin, adding that communities now take ownership of schools in their area.
He further reasoned that some communities who failed to meet the required minimum requirement for establishment of secondary schools in their area would be captured for alternative measures.
''There is what is called catchment area for establishment of schools. If you dont' have enough population for school to come up in your area, deploying teachers to teach may be 10 students 13 courses will be a waste of resources. For schools to come up,you must meet the minimum requirement.''
The ASUBEB Boss who believes strongly in close supervision to achieve desired result, urged teachers in the state to be alive to their duties by imbibing positive work ethics and discipline in the overall interest of pupils and students under their watch..
