Tension as Senator Ekwunife wins APC primary inconclusive election; National APC officials disappear

www.odogwublog.com reports exclusively that thousands of supporters of the Aspirants for the All progressives Congress candidate at Olive Montage hotel Awka have dispersed after long wait for the Chairman, Senator Domingo (not sure if it is his first name) Obande and members of national body charged with the conduct of the election.

A member of APC on ground , who gave his name as Ebo said they dispersed by 4:12 pm since nobody is there to supervise or direct them on what to do.

The APC leadership would meet on Friday to determine the way out of Anambra sham called primary election.
Meanwhile, there was confusion at the Olivia Montage hotel, venue of the Anambra state All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for Anambra state central senatorial zone yesterday afternoon.
But top aspirant for the ticket, Senator Uche Ekwunife broke her silence and said that whatever decision of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC takes in the inconclusive primaries into Anambra central senatorial zone will be treated as sacrosanct.
Ekwunife while addressing her supporters assured that she holds the party in high esteem and takes the decision of the party in good conscience and refused to speak on issues of disqualification or nor disqualification since she was partciapting in the primary election.
Senator Ekwunife also called on her supporters to remain calm and prayerful as they await the final primary election into the remaining three local governments areas of the zone.
She thanked the delegates for turning out in large number to vote for her in the inconclusive primary election held in four out of the three local government areas of Anambra central senatorial zone expressing confidence that she will win the primary election and fly the party's flag.
The election ran into hitches with the electoral committee refusing to count the votes of the local government that have voted, saying that the ballot boxes should be taken home and brought back the next day for election to commence. Supporters of Uche Ekwuunife have started a strong protest against the move , insisting the votes should be counted there immediately. Before it was counted and Ekwunife triumphed as she already scored 284 votes against 34 votes of Sharon Ikeazor as at press time. The primary was still ongoing amidst confusion.

But the Director General of the Sharon Ikeazor campaign organization, Hon Ebele Obi has described the primary election as a fraud.
Obi, a former legislator in the state assembly who openly protested the primary election which was held Wednesday night said that there was no proper accreditation, and as such the primary election was configured to suit Senator Uche Ekwunife from the start.
Obi who began his protest on Wednesday night at the election venue stated that the four out of the three local governments that had already voted were not properly accredited, rather selected members who are known to be loyal to his aspirant’s opponent were brought in to vote.
Recall that in the primary election which was declared inconclusive, Senator Ekwunife had polled 384 votes as against Ikeazor’s 34 votes, leaving Ekwunife in a clear lead, even though three local governments continued with the voting Thursday.
Idemili North, Idemili South and Awka North were the three local governments whose delegates were voting in the primary election yeterday.
The National leadership of the party were helpless and the inconclusiveness of the election was to see a way out to placate the national body of APC as they were in the state specifically to deliver Ikeazor for the election.
As at the time of filling this report, party delegates were at the Olivia Montage Hotel, but none of the national officers charged with the conduct of the election was anywhere to be found, fueling speculation that the entire process may be cancelled.
Already, supporters of Sen Uche Ekwunife are in high hopes that their candidate will win the primary election, even though she has remained absent all day at the venue of the election.
Youths of the party had also protested the move to select Ikeazor, with many citing reasons of imposition by the party leadership, without recourse to the grass root members.
Some of the youths who spoke to our correspondent stated their reasons thus,” the only way they can impose Ikeazor on us is if they do not want the growth of the party. Our members have remained very hungry for a long time now, and all we keep getting is imposition of candidates.
“When Ngige was always contesting, we never had anyone to run against him, but, and because of that he never really brought out money, but we had to manage him because he is our leader and has sacrificed for the party. But now that Ngige is not coming out, and a very viable candidate has approached us, we have to give it to her.”
He insisted that Ikeazor will spoil politics for members of the party, which will remove competitiveness from the contest, and bearing in mind that Ikeazor does not even have the financial muscle to run for the election.
Another youth member of the party said, “All these people you see here are waiting for transport money, and we know that if we throw it open there will be competition, but if it is given to one candidate on a platter of gold, he will not value it, and will not even like to spend money.
Hon Elias Onyeagu, former chairman of Dunukofia chapter of APC said that APC must beware as imposition of candidate was the reason PDP has lost steam, and that if imposition is truly the reason for their traveling down to Awka from Abuja, then the party has started dying.
