Brotherliness and love took centre stage as members of the Lagos Branch of Ogidi Union, Nigeria over the weekend gathered for the dedication of the Ogidi Civic Centre and their 2015 Merit Awards in Lagos.
The event reports that it attracted illustrious sons and daughters of the Community, friends and well-wishers.
The One-storey building with two 1000 sitting capacity Halls, conveniences and offices, initiated and executed by the Ogidi Union Lagos Branch, situates elegantly at 512 road, W-Close, Festac Town, Lagos. The first of its kind by any branch of the Union in the Country, the Project had commenced in 1996 under the Leadership of the Branch's former President, Late Sir Thompson Iloabachie who during the ceremony received a Post-Humous Award.
The President General, Ogidi Union, Nigeria, Chief Jideofor Onubogu stressed the need for Sons and Daughters of Ogidi, the Worldover, to be committed to the ongoing peace process in the Community, noting that the Lagos Branch has by the project brought honour not only to Ogidi Community but also to Anambra State.
In a welcome address, the President of the Branch, Sir Peter Egbuna described the actualisation of the project as a dream come true for Ndi Ogidi in Lagos.
According to him, the Awards were instituted in keeping with the Union's vision to recognize and honour distinguished sons and daughters of Ogidi who have achieved excellence in various spheres of human endeavour.
The Chairman on the occassion, Bar Sam Egbuchunam said the Ogidi Community has continued to blaze the trail in many positive feats, a development he attributed to the abundant human resources with which God has blessed the Community.
Some of the awardees including a former Senatorial Aspirant for Anambra Central, Sir Obiora Okonkwo, the Managing Director and Vice President, Arik Air, Chief Chris Ndulue and Chief Ifeanyichukwu Okaro thanked the Union for the honour done to them which they noted will spur them towards greater contributions towards the growth of the Community.
Others including the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Anambra State Small Business Agency, ASBA, Chief Clement Chukwuka and the President of the Women's Wing of the Branch, Dr Chinwe Obikwelu said the day will ever remain indelible in the history of the Community.
Highpoint of the event was the formal dedication of the edifice, presentation of awards as well as cultural dance by the Women's Wing of the Branch.
