Emeka Muoneme escapes assassination, as Vintage editor-in-chief suspended over malicious publications

The Editor-in-Chief of Anambra State-based Vintage Newspaper, Mr Hector Osondu, has been suspended by the board over malicious publications in the Wednesday, December 20, 2015 edition of the local tabloid.

His sack was contained in a press release issued on Tuesday in Nnewi by the newspaper’s Board of Directors.

The medium said it decided to suspend Osondu from all official activities pending the board’s conclusion of the ongoing investigation relating to the controversial stories.
The Board Chairman, Emeka Muoneme said: “We have to take this drastic measure to save the newspaper from the embarrassing reports published recently which is at present creating ripples and disaffection among our readers in Anambra State. This is our first step towards letting the public know that the malicious stories were done in bad taste, aimed at tarnishing the good image of some prominent citizens of Anambra State.”
Muoneme stated that the publication had not only dented the image of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State and Dr Patrick Ubah of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd, but also made his life unsafe before some faceless individuals. `
He said: “I was almost gunned down at Awka re¬cently by some unknown gunmen over this deadly report. They even said that these shots on my car were just a warning for me to be careful.”
www.odogwublog.com recalls that Vintage Newspaper on December 20 published controversial stories in its front and back pages titled: “How Obiano mismanaged N75 billion” and “Chukwuma, Ifeanyi Ubah face-off” with a rider – “Gabros boss takes back football club, prepares for next season.”
The said reports, according to Muoneme, had no iota of truth and approval of the Editorial Board. The newspaper, however, is planning for a retraction in its next edition as a mark of solidarity with Governor Obiano and Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
