Rivers State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed 20 chairmen and Caretaker committee members for 20 local government councils of the State.
Speaker of the House, Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani announced their confirmation on Tuesday, after screening of the nominees and voting by the Assembly members.
Ibani, while reading out the request by the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, said nominees for two local government councils including Opobo Nkoro and Khana local government areas, were yet to be forwarded to the Assembly.
The nominees' list had three former Caretaker Committee chairmen (CTC) including Bright Amewhule of Obio/Akpor, Ability Weke of Etche and Bright Ikowa.
Some of the newly confirmed CTC chairmen were Oye Egnewari (Abua/Odual), Ikachi Douglas (Ahoada East), Samuel Nwanosike (Ikwerre) and Sunny Ejegwu (Port Harcourt City).
Also, the House of Assembly has appointed 28 standing committees to oversee the activities of the House.
The committees included that of Information and Training, led by Sam Oge, while the Committee on Public Compliant was chaired by Evans Bipi.
Also, the Committee for Local Government Affairs was chaired by Kelechi Worgu , while that of Judiciary was led by Jones Ogbonda. Finance Commitee is headed by Edisson Ehie.
The only member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Assembly, Josiah Olu was appointed the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs.
