Prof. Ahaneku Rejoices with UNIZIK Fm as NUJ Champions

The vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku has commended the entire staff and crew members of Unizik 94.1fm on their recent feat as champions at the football competition organized by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra chapter. 

Prof. Ahaneku made the commendation Thursday when the crew and some members of staff of Mass Communication department led by the director of the radio and head of the department, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna presented the trophy to him and the committee of deans at the senate chambers. 

The vice chancellor described the trophy as another feather added to the success stories being recorded in the university. Prof. Ahaneku expressed happiness over the achievement adding that the Unizik crew is really lifting the image of the varsity to greater heights. He pledged the commitment of his administration towards investing and  supporting the FM unit, as well as other things that will bring positive results to the institution. 

According to him, "The need for sporting facilities in the university cannot be over emphasized. We have set the target for the completion of our sporting facility and the contractor has affirmed that the February deadline is attainable". 

While commending the leadership of the director of the radio station, Prof. Okunna, whom he described as a woman of excellence, the university head thanked the team for contributing in the visibility of the varsity. He associated the victory with  living in tandem and philosophy of the university and its founding fathers. 

Earlier in her address, Prof. Okunna explained that the competition was keenly contested but with the motivation from the sports loving vice chancellor, the team were able to emerge winners. 

She commended Prof. Ahaneku for his unrelenting support to the radio while soliciting for more support. Prof. Okunna disclosed that unizik fm have become a chapel under the NUJ making it the first campus radio to attain such height. 

In his remark, the captain of the team, Mr. Ogoo Igboegwu (DJ Virus) thanked the vice chancellor for his support, assuring that the team will not relent in blazing the trail. 

Speaking on behalf of the deans, the chairman committee of deans and dean, faculty of physical sciences, Prof. Tony Nwokoye commended the team for making the university proud while supporting them financially together with the vice Chancellor.
