Vice Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka , Prof Joseph Ahaneku yesterday commended the Unizik FM football team after the team emerged the winner at the 2015 NUJ Media game.
The Unizik team won after it humbled her purity FM counterpart with three goals to two in the final match played Friday.
The final match which took place at ABS stadium of light was witnessed by management of various media organizations in the state, political leaders, sponsors of the event, among others.
In less than fifteen minutes into the game Purity FM football team stirred her Unizik FM challenger with an initial goal by Chibueze Ughala, but the spirited effort of the Unizik FM team gave the team an edge when Ebuka Eboh, scored two goals in quick succession, followed by another goal by Vincent Eboh.
At the second half of the match, Purity FM football team launched massive defence and attack tactics to maintain her lead positions, but was resisted by the determined Unizik FM team till the final whistle.
Expressing her joy over the victory, the Manager Unizik FM, Mrs. Ify Obi, commended her team for their commitment in lifting the trophy and thanked the organizers of the maiden event.
Speaking on the essence of the NUJ Game, the state Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Henry Nwasike, said it was an avenue for journalist to showcase their talents in the game of football, and foster good relationship among media professionals.
On his part, the Anambra state Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Damian Egwuonwu, while expressing happiness for the success of the game, thanked the Brandel Aristotle Winning Concept, Anambra State APGA Executives, the Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Right Reverend Alexander Ibezim and the state Commissioner of Police, Hassan Karma for sponsoring the event.
Bronze trophy went to the team ABS for third position.
