NUJ, UNESCO collaborate to end crimes against journalists

Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, in collaboration with United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Oragnisation, UNESCO has lent its voice against crimes against journalists.
NUJ disclosed this in a press statement issued to newsmen and signed by the its National Secretary, Mr. Shuaibu Usman Leman to commemorate International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalist which will be celebrated on Monday.
The statement revealed that the theme for this year’s celebration id “ending Impunity for Crime against Journalists.”
According to the statement, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/RES/68/163 at its 68th session in 2013, which proclaimed November 2 as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, IDEI.
It stated that the date was chosen in commemoration of the assassination of two French Journalists in Mali on November 2, 2013.
It was recalled that in 2014, the first year of IDEI, UNESCO in collaboration with NUJ organized series of activities prominent amongst which was the inauguration of National Monitoring Network on Safety of Journalists, NMSJ.
