The Deputy Public Affairs Officer of the United States Consulate General, Lagos, Mr. Frank Sellin, has called on young ndi Anambra to embrace the opportunities embedded in the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship programme of the United States Government.
Mr. Sellin stated when he paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, ABS, Mr Uche Nworah at his office in Awka.
The Mandela Fellowship Initiative and the Young African Leadership Initiative, YALI, launched in 2010, has since inception benefited over eighty-six young Nigerians and over twenty-six thousand young professionals, respectively and it is part of President Obama's overall efforts at encouraging investment on the education and training of Africa's next generation of leaders.
Speaking to the ABS shortly after the visit, Mr. Sellin said registration is on to import over one thousand young African leaders who have niches in business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership and public management, for a six months intensive academic and leadership training at top twenty American Universities after which, participants would converge for a Presidential summit at Washington DC at the expense of the US.
He called on young Nigerians between the age bracket of twenty-five and thirty-five years, who have distinguished themselves in leadership in their different fields and who are committed to joining other African young minds in polling their ideas, skills and talents together towards serving and building a better Africa to avail themselves of the opportunity.
He, however, called on young ndi Anambra who would like to seize this lifetime opportunity to visit their website on www.yali.state.gov to apply and to source further information before the deadline date of November, 11 or to visit any of their information resource centers.
While assuring of the continued partnership of the ABS with the embassy in areas of enlightenment, the MD/CEO, ABS, Mr. Nworah, encouraged ndi Anambra who have been contributing tremendously towards the development of their communities to utilize the opportunity, which according to him, would afford them the needed resources and skills needed to argument the efforts of the Willie Obiano administration at transforming the state.
