Tribunal sack two PDP senators

The elections of two senators elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were on Monday nullified by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.

The two PDP senators are Enyinnaya Abaribe representing Abia South Senatorial District and Gilbert Nnaji representing Enugu East District.

Chris Nkwonta of the All Progressive Grand Allaince (APGA) has gone to the tribunal to challenge the declaration of Abaribe as the winner of the March 28 National Assembly election in Abia South.

The tribunal in its ruling on Monday ordered a rerun in two Local Governments where elections were not held.

Nnaji’s victory was nullified by the National Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Enugu State.

The tribunal in its judgement ruled that Nnaji was not the duly elected candidate in the election.

The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue the Certificate of Return to a former Governor of the state, Chimaroke Nnamani, who contested on the platform of the People for Democratic Change (PDC) and got the highest number of votes in the election.
