As the activities to mark Igwe Alfred Achebe’s Ofala at Onitsha kick started, the Executive Secretary of Enugu State Council for Art and Culture, Chief Izueke Eddy Okolo, has urged Nigerians to troop to the art exhibition centre of  the Ofala festival.

He also appealed to the federal and state governments including good spirited individuals and firms in the country  to attend in order to encourage artists.
In an exclusive interview in his office in Enugu, Chief Okolo said that harnessing and promotion of art in the country would generate a lot of revenue for the nation.

He also called on the federal government to construct a befitting national gallery of art  in the capital city of Abuja, where works of art would be displaced for foreigners to visit.

“When you visit other countries, including some African countries, you are informed at the port of entry at the airport to visit national galleries and museum as part of interesting places and many people go to such places, pay to enter and sometimes buy art works”, he stated.

On the art exhibition at the Ofala festival, he commended the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Achebe, for promoting Nigeria artists, stressing that foreigners would also attend the exhibition, where art works from Nigerian artists would be exhibited.

Chief Okolo, who is an artist, also extolled Enugu State Government for embarking on annual sponsorship of art fiesta.
