Environmental Health Officer and Cordinator,Nnewi North Local Government Area, Udogu Ngozi has conducted a lecture on the control of tropical diseases like Schistosomiasis also known as Bilharziasis, soil transmitted Helminths (STH), Lymphatic filariasis (LF), Onchocerciasis and Malaria.
Udogu stated in detail, the need to be alert on the symptoms which leads to the development of the above mentioned diseases at the secretariat hall ,Nnewi North LGA.
She disclosed the possible drugs which can be used in curing of the diseases which she said affect the school age children, crawling babies, women, fishermen and irrigation workers.
She said that the diseases were contacted in an infected environment, and is also transmitted to the body by female mosquitoes of genus Anopheles , culex and when an infected person excretes in the water, where people swim, drinks and do other things.
Udogu also educated people on the possible Symtoms of the diseases saying that Schistosomiasis symptoms are seeing blood in urine, which causes kidney problems, diarrhea,tiredness, abdominal pain or discomfort, blood In the feaces.
According to her,Soil –transmitted helminthes (STH) Symptoms are anaemia , vitamin a deficiency, loss of appetite.
Lymphatic filariasis (LF) Symptoms, she said are excess irritation and Inflammation that damages the vessels and nodes leading to obstructions and inefficiency.
For Onchocerciasis symptom,she identified severe itching,leopard skin, macular rash, retinal lesions, lymphatic involvement while Malaria symptom include headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, pain, chills, fatigue.
In her conclusion, Ngozi adviced people to take treatment seriously and to make use of the disclosed drugs given to them by the government. She urged them to keep their environment cleans and pray to god for protection.
