Lagos Police arrest phone robbery gang

                                                                              
Special anti robbery patrol team of the Rapid Response Squad(RRS) has arrested the most wanted three man criminal gang who specialize in stealing phones in public transport,the police has said.

The police gave the names of the trio as Ebuka Ekujere, 35, Monsuru Onanuga, 32, and Segun Alao ,30.

The commander of the RRS,Assistant Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the trio were arrested at Eko Hotel area in Lagos Island after snatching a mobile phone from a motorist inside tricycle popularly called Marwa.

He said the suspect and his accomplices were apprehended when they were discussing  on a sharing pattern after Ebuka had successfully stolen the phone from the owner

"I boarded a tricycle at Eko Hotel round about to Obalende and in front of Eko Hotel gate I removed a handset from a passengers pocket and dropped it on the seat. The passenger unknowingly to him that his handset has been stolen, he alighted in front of the hotel gate.

"He said the duo of Segun Alao and Monsuru Onanuga saw me when I picked the handset and they joined me in the tricycle. Both of them demanded for settlement and I gave them Three Thousand Naira (3,000) but Monsuru Onanuga further attempted to collect the phone and my money. Then, I engaged them in a verbal confrontation and this attracted the tricycle rider. Having explained what transpired to him, he held me and handed me over to RRS operatives stationed in front of Eko Hotel", the suspect said in his confessional statement to the Police.

In a related development,the RRS also arrested one Musa Inusa 32 while he was carrying the stolen bridge rails for delivery to their reciever at Ijora.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Joe Offor,while  confirming the stories said that the squad are spreading there drag nets to ensure that the fleeing members of the gang and the two recievers at Ijora are arrested.

Dsp Joe Offor advised Lagosians to always be careful when they are in the public places and transport to ensure that these thieves do not  rob them of their belongings.
