Flood submerges 30 houses in Delta community

The councillor representing, Jeremi Ward 3 in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State,  Sunday Apah, has appealed to the state and Federal governments to come to the aide of his people, after more than 30 houses were  submerged by flood at Otu-Jeremi community.
Apah, who is the chairman of the council’s Committee on Information, Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in Ughelli South legislative arm, made the appeal yesterday, during an assessment tour to ascertain the level of damages done to the villagers by the ravaging flood.
He said: “I am surprised at the level of destruction of my constituents’ property. Many of them have been rendered homeless, but as a member of the Ughelli South legislative arm, I will do my best to see how the situation could be managed, pending when help will come from the state and the Federal governments.
“As a local government, we can only do our best because of the meagre resources from the federal government.
“I want to appeal to my people to be patient for a while. They will definitely be taken care of by the government.”
Also, a victim and youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ughelli South Local Government Council, Mr. Sadiq Hitler, who spoke to our correspondent, lamented how the flood destroyed his belongings and rendered him homeless.
Hitler appealed to Ughelli South Local Government Council, the Delta State and the Federal Government to come to their aid, adding that  the community might be wiped out by flood if urgent steps were  not taken.
