Calabar Teaching Hospital shutdown for Ebola

                                                        
Following a suspected Ebola case in Calabar, Cross River state, the Federal Government has dispatched a team of medical personnel to the state to verify the incident.

An unidentified patient had died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital on Wednesday after suffering from high body temperature, and at the same time vomiting, stooling and bleeding from the nose - which are principal symptoms of the Ebola virus.

The patient died after his samples were taken for investigation.

The accident and emergency ward of the Teaching Hospital has been shut down, with about 10 persons who had contact with the deceased quarantined.

Although the Director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Prof. Abdulsalam Nasidi, dismissed the possibility that the patient may have been killed by Ebola. He said it could be Haemorrhagic fever.

Nonetheless, he noted that the government team is already on ground in Calabar awaiting results of the laboratory investigation
