Blood bath averted in Onitsha by Abada Traders Association

www.odogwublog.com reports that blood bath amongst traders of the Abada Market, Bridgehead, Onitsha, Anambra State was averted yesterday by the prompt intervention of the Anambra State Police Command, and the Directorate of State Security service, DSS.
Trouble started when the traders prepared for their election to be held inside the Abada market, but one of the candidates to the post of chairmanship seat, Chief Nicholas Omeife, with his supports insisted that the election be held at the normal venue, former Fegge Local Government Area Field.
The election however ended up in fiasco as most of the traders insisted that non members who infiltrated the genuine traders must be flushed out before the conduct of the election which caused chaos and forced the conduct of the election to be postponed indefinitely.
Speaking, Chief Omeife said: “the opposition had perfected plan to rig the election because the market does not have water tight security”
“Non members who are supporting my opponents can come through the river and join the real members, so we say no to the election they plan to conduct inside the market”.
Chief Omeife who earlier accused the Data capturing team led by one Arinze of being bias, stated that the team earlier was accused of registering non members for the election.
He expressed dismay that officials of State Government would be biased in carrying out their functions.
He recalled that most of the traders were really set for a show down if the venue was not changed by the security operatives.
According to him, “the police, DSS, leader of traders in Anambra State and other security operatives immediately had a closed door meeting and resolved that the election be held in a neutral ground instead of Fegge field which saved the situation”.
The election venue was them transferred to Hotel Resort along Onitsha/Benin Express way.
Commending the security operatives for their prompt intervention on change of venue, Chief Omeife said, “I remain grateful to them because the opposition and my arch rival, Henry Ani Akaze wanted to use the Abada market venue which is unsafe for the conduct of the election.
In his defence, the outgoing chairman, Chief Paul Ibeneme said that he was not bothered with the venue of the election but interested in having a smooth transition to a new government in the market.
He denied allegation leveled against him by Chief Omeife and others, adding that as a father he would not be bias.
