Anambra Youths Pass Vote of Confidence on Tribunal Judges

www.odogwublog.com reports that pressure group, Progressive Anambra Youths, PAY, has passed a vote of confidence on judges of the National Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Awka on the prudent and transparent manner it is handling the election petition matters.

Despite the absence of the Judiciary workers in the state who began an indefinite strike over nonpayment of consolidated judiciary salary structure by the state government since September 7, 2015, the youth body said they were impressed by the tribunal proceedings so far.

The youths, who marched from Okpuno through the State NUJ press centre to the popular Aroma junction, later ended up at the gate of the Judiciary complex with banner of various inscriptions such as: “Judges don’t compromise your integrity”, We are satisfied with what you are doing so far, “Remember that you are the hope of  the common man”,” Upturn stolen mandates” among others.

Speaking to our reporter at the judiciary complex, the National president of PAY, Comrade Okafor Nonso-Smart said they have observed court proceedings for some times now and discovered that the National Assembly election tribunal judges handling the election matters in the state are fair and transparent and deserve the people’s encouragement to do more.

“The judges have shown element of fairness and transparency in dispensing justice, irrespective of the parties or individuals involved in the election.
“So, our interest is that we participated actively in the election and will be glad to see justice prevail without prejudice. We want to let them know that they have been fair so far. If they know that people appreciate the fact that they are fair, they will do more. We are not in support of any party or candidate but interested in fairness” he said.

On the strike of the Judiciary Staff union of Nigeria, JUSUN, Comrade Okafor urged the State government to comply with the judiciary to move the state forward, arguing that the duties of the Executive and the judiciary are complementary and geared towards better welfare of the citizens.

“When two elephants fight, the grass will always suffer and that is why we are begging our dear Governor, Chief Willie Obiano to, as a matter of urgency, review an agreement the executive arm entered with the judiciary service in the state in 2011 over the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure, CONJUS” he urged.
