Orji Uzor Kalu gets N20 Million support for FIFA Presidency from Oscar Igbokwe as NFF sets condition for candidates

The groundswell of supports that are coming the way of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu’s FIFA presidency bid were taken to the next level yesterday with chairman of Nigerian National League side, Bussdor FC, Oscar Igbokwe pledging a N20m financial backing.
Igbokwe in a statement made available to Daily Sunsports not only joined other well meaning Nigerians urging Kalu to vie for the FIFA top job but pleaded with the nation’s football stakeholders to back the former Abia State governor.
The Imo State born foot- ball buff pointed out that Kalu is one Nigerian that is eminently qualified to lead the world soccer governing body, even as stressed that he is a candidate that is capable of facing and competing with candidates from other soccer federations.
“My appeal is for other Nigerians vying for FIFA presidency to step down for Kalu as it is good for Nigeria to present one formidable candidate who is capable and able to compete with those from other football federations.,” Igbokwe stated.
Igbokwe while acknowledging the massive support Bussdor FC had been getting from Kalu who has been vice chairman of the club since 2013 noted that Kalu becoming the first Nigerian and African FIFA president will not only be to the glory of his club but that of Nigeria.

This is coming as the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, yesterday set conditions to be met by any Nigerian can- didate that wants her endorsement to vie for FIFA Presidency.
According to a communique signed by Honourable Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande from the emergency meeting of the executive committee of the NFF held at the Hotel Presidential, Port- Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday, the body stated that the candidates have to get a letter of endorsement from CAF as well as their respective Foot- ball Associations and also present a letter of support from the National Sports Commission (NSC). They also have to prove they fulfill all the FIFA presidential elections eligibility provisions.
“The aspiration of these eminent Nigerians is in tandem with the conviction of the present NFF Executive    Committee that our country can no longer be a silent member of the international football community. In truth, there is nothing wrong with any qualified Nigerian aspiring to rule the world in any given sector. However, the Executive Committee noted with deep concern that over the past four years, two prominent Nigerian football administrators had lost elections to be on the FIFA/CAF Executive Committees. The Committee believes these losses can be put down to lack of extensive consultations.
“Against the foregoing, the Executive Committee is determined that Nigeria will no longer be exposed to such defeats
in international football politics, as they inevitably reduce our stock. In order to guard against our country suffering such undeserved embarrassment and being reduced to a fringe player at inter- national level, the Committee unanimously re- solved that aspirants for the Office of Presidency of FIFA fulfill the following conditions before the NFF can consider giving its endorsement.
“Should any of the aspiring prominent Nigerians fulfill the above conditions, the Nigeria Football Federation will, unfailingly, throw its weight behind this candidate {only one person can be endorsed by the NFF} and vigorously campaign for the particular candidate to win election into the seat of the FIFA Presidency,” the communique stated.
