Confusion over teacher collecting salary from Prison in Anambra state

It has been revealed that a teacher currently serving a jail term in
Anambra state was still receiving salary from the state government.

On discovering this development the headmistress of Community Primary School, Uruagu, in Nnewi North Local Government Area, Mrs Chinyere
Madu was said to have been summoned by the Chairman of ASUBEB to explain why she should not face disciplinary actions for aiding such
criminal activity in her institution.


Investigations revealed that the said teacher Mrs. Agnes Uzoyibo
Agbanusi was sentenced on May 8, 2015 on two count-charge of
conspiracy and giving false information to the police by an Nnewi
Chief Magistrate's Court. She was sentenced to three months for
conspiracy and six months for giving false information to the police
against an Nnewi-based business tycoon, Mr Bethrand Onwuzo.

Mrs Agnes had on September 10, 2009, written a petition to the Nnewi Police Area Command wherein she alleged that one Mr. Bethrand Onwunzo, in company of six "hefty men whose faces looked strange, covering their faces with black spectacles and wearing black suits," invaded their residence at about 8.30pm on a mission to kidnap her husband, Mr. Benneth Izuegbunam.

Based on the petition, the police swung into action, but later
discovered that the school teacher lied and charged her accordingly
before she was convicted. Curiously, after being thrown into prison,
Agnes continued to receive her salary as a public servant, a
development Bethrand discovered and petitioned the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, and copied ASUBEB Chairman, the state Commissioner of Police and Director of the State Security Service.

However our reporter gathered that the head teacher, in her defense
before the school authorities, said Agnes deceived her by telling her
that she was hospitalized and that she brought a doctor's report as a
proof for the claim. She denied knowing that the teacher was serving
jail term at the prison.
