CATHOLIC Bishop of Awka of Diocese, Paulinus Ezeokafor, has described impatience
and loss of sheer values as major causes of divorce, even as he advised intending
couples to place high premium on character when making marital choices.
Bishop Ezeokafor who
made the assertion when he featured in an ABS Audience Participatory Programme,
'Insight', also traced what he described as a worrisome situation to youth exuberance
and lack of regard to parental advice.
Bishop Ezeokafor
described the family as the soul of society and called on parents to be alive
to their responsibilities of training children in the fear of God.
He enjoined parents,
especially mothers to make out time for
their wards, noting that a trained individual would no doubt, be useful to the
family, the Church and society at large.
Reacting to the
issue of same-sex marriage, the bishop took a swipe at developed countries for
championing the act which he described as an abomination before God. He noted
that the act negated the principle of natural and divine laws under the guise
of expanding human rights.
Also, on the issue
of insurgency, Bishop Ezeokafor observed that insurgency and terrorism are
greatest challenges of the present day society.
He called on
parents, government and religious leaders to dedicate time and resources in
teaching the young ones the values and sanctity of human life.
Bishop Ezeokafor
noted that ignorance and indoctrination were tools for easy recruitment of
people into terrorist activities, noting that proper education on the
importance of life was the only way out.
