www.odogwublog.com reports that a group, Campaign for Democracy (CD), has urged Federal and Anambra Governments to ameliorate the plight of flood victims within Idemili North Council area in Anambra.
It would be recalled that three weeks ago a torrential rainfall flooded Obosi, Awada and Nkpor communities in Idemili North Council and led to the death of four persons, while tens of families were rendered homeless.
The group made the appeal in a statement obtained by newsmen in Onitsha yesterday.
The statement was signed by the Chairman of the group in Anambra, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme.
It called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to come to the aid of the victims.
``However, we commend Gov. Willie Obiano and Sen.Uche Ekwunife for their prompt action in visiting the victims.
``While we call on them to use their offices to attract the state and Federal Governments’ attention to help ameliorate the suffering of the victims of the flood disaster.
``We also call on members representing the affected areas in National Assembly to move a motion to recognize those areas as flood and erosion prone areas, which deserves special government grants and attention,’’ it said.
In a related development; the statement commended the Anambra government for the palliative work it had embarked upon on the collapsed Nkisi Bridge, at the outskirt of Onitsha.
``It will be recalled that CD in a memo sent to Gov. Willie Obiano calls for the dualisation of 3-3 Nkwelle Road.
``The group praised the governor for his prompt action on the road,’’ it said.
The statement, however, urged the governor to extend such palliative work to the Ugwuokwu-Umuchu Road in Aguata LGA of Anambra.
``It is a pity that the people living or taking Ugwuokwu-Umuchu Road has been disconnected from the rest of the state; while they are unable to get to their homes due to bad road,’’ it said.
