Breaking News: Obiano's security feats drop as Robbers invade Nnewi, Anambra state

www.odogwublog.com reports that the feat recorded by the Governor Willie Obiano's administration of security had a relapse as police officers and other security agents went to sleep and robbers took over Nnewi for several hours unchallenged.
The traders in the industrial town of Nnewi woke up weekend to discover that the shops they securely locked up at the end of the days business have been broken into by suspected armed bandits who went away with goods running into millions of naira.

The suspects according to sources operated along the popular Onitsha road axis of the market which house a number of businessmen who deal in electronics.

One of the shops allegedly broken into was said to belong to Onwa, a young businessman. The marauders were said to have destroyed about ten padlock keys before gaining access to the thriving store and allegedly made away with all the home theatres and other valuables in the shop.

Some other shops in the same line were said to be broken into, most especially those that belongs to people selling phones and other expensive items.

A night guard(Name withheld) employed by some traders in the area while narrating his experience said the armed bandits who are more than twenty stormed the section of the market in the early hours fully armed and moved from one shop to the other.

He pointed out that he was able to escape the hoodlums because of his good knowledge of the geography of the area as they made spirited attempt to fish him out which according to him gives an impression that they are quite aware he is always there.

The night guard further claimed that he could not confront the men of the underworld because he was only armed with a machete and that there was no air time in his phone so he could really call for help or raise alarm.

A number of traders whose shops were affected who spoke to journalists on the grounds of anonymity expressed worry that they had to suffer the ugly fate not minding that they pay security and other spurious levies every month.

They called on the state government to urgently review its security policy as hoodlums are now attacking almost on daily basis in the commercial centers of the state.

When contacted, the head of vigilante group in Nnewi directed our reporter to the chairman of the town union who was not on sit to react to the robbery incident.

Curiously, the Police Area Commander in charge of Nnewi when contacted yesterday also directed our reporter to the Divisional Police Officer at the Central Police Station(CPS) on the grounds that he has not been briefed on such development.

The DPO was however equally not on seat but a senior officer who would not want his name in print said he only heard of the robbery when he went to buy something in the section of the market and that no one has made official report of the robbery to the police.
