Breaking News: Assassination attempt on Igwe Kris Onyekwuluje: Umunya Youths petition IG, Obiano

 www.odogwublog.com reports that Umunya youths under the auspices of Youths Association of Odumodu Ani and Odumodu Enu, Villages of Umunya community, Oyi local government area, have petitioned the Inspector General of police , Solomon Arase and the Anambra state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano to probe the assassination attempt on their traditional ruler HRH Igwe Kris Onyekwuluje (Eze-Nya 1) .

Chairman of the youths Nze Okwudili Nwankwo alongside others in the petition  said the youths are ready to testify how the marauders struck to kill the Igwe but missed him exhibiting materials that truly linked some people to the murder plan.

 A copy of the petition sighted by www.odogwublog.com signed by Nze Okwudili Nwankwo and Obinze Fidelis for Odumodu Ani and Emmanuel Ozue and Benneth Azakor as Odumodu Enu youth representatives accused Ekene Okonkwo Ejeh and his team in (Odumodu Ebonabo) of selling their individual properties (land)at Okpuno to Mr Emeka (Aka Agujiegbe) and others as well as selling off another of their land at Aguocha between Ifite Nteje and Odumodu Ani and Odumodu Enu in Umunya as well as Isiyi land to Dr Chike Obidigbo of Hardis.

The petition sent to Governor Willie Obiano, Commissioner of police and other security enforcement agencies were further signed by titled men of  Umunya community including Ichie Pat Okechukwu Aniekwena, Mr Emmanuel Nweke , Mr Nwafor Godwin and Mr Emmanuel Ozue, all principal members of Odumodu Ani and Odumodu Enu.

They said’’ the planned assassination was real. They planned to kill Igwe alongside us because he (Ekene Okonkwo Eje) thinks Igwe is supporting us but his plans failed when one of his boys chuckled and denounced the plans and exposed them, then SARS was brought in and they were arrested following overwhelming documentary evidence and would be charged to court.........’’.

Throwing more light on why the crisis, Chairman of Youths Association of Odumodu Ani and Odumodu Enu, Villages of Umunya community, Oyi local government area, Nze Okwudili Nwankwo said the bubble burst when the Anglican Diocese on the Niger, led by Right Reverend Nwokolo wanted to pay for a property under lease by the diocese for decades with Odumodu Ani and Odumodu Enu worth N50 million but the Chairman of Odumodu Ebonabo wanted him to pay with that name that they smelt foul play and became inquisitive to know what happened to all their lands under his control and monies released, he became unfriendly and started arresting them.

They petitioned Igwe Onyekwuluje and that did not go down well with Okonkwo who now planned to eliminate the Igwe and 10 of them as Executives of Odumodu Ani and Odumodu Enu but their plan leaked.

He narrated that the Odumodu Ani and Odumodu Enu Youth Association Umunya petitioned the Eze Nya 1 of Umunya, Igwe Kris Chinedu Onyekwuluje on the activities of one Mr Ekene Okonkwo Ejeh and his group known as Odumodu Ebonabo Group which they formed to convert landed property of both Odumodu Ani and Odumodu Enu fraudulently when he is from Odumodu Enu Village Umunya.

They complained to Igwe apart from selling their common landed property as personal estate, Ekene Okonkwo Ejeh and his group were maltreating, arresting and sanctioning them at will with anybody who questions their authority ending up in police detention with torture. They wanted him to step down after 12 years of leading them as Odumodu Ebonabo and account for all the lands worth over several Millions he sold out on their behalf.

They lamented that that gave Nteje the impetus to invade their lands destroying crops and farms of individuals and appealed to him to intervene before lives would be lost. They equally compiled Umunya Welfare Union.   He said they are inviting EFCC and other anti graft bodies soonest to investigate the monumental fraud with fraudulent name Odumodu Ebonabo.
 
 He said about 1:50 am penultimate week, policemen invaded their homes and arrested 16 of them and but for the intervention of Igwe Onyekwuluje , they would have rotten in police cell because his order was nobody should be bailed. He informed further that was the offence committed by Igwe marking him out as supporting us, hence the need to waste him alongside us.

HRH Igwe, Kris C. Onyekwuluje (Eze-Nya 1) ascended Umunya throne in 1998 and has been a champion of development and growth of Umunya community.
Okoknwo Ejeh returned from US in 1985 and summoned the two villages explaining to them he wanted to re-do some of the wrong things his father did , which the community divided into two in favour and against but he cashed on it and later registered Odumodu Ebonabo , which he presided over as Chairman when non of such exists in Umunya as a village. He claims autonomous community, until this revolution by the youths. He had used sanction and police harassment to kept them

 at a distance for a while.
Confirming his torture and sanction , Raphael Anikwena said for him to bury his father , he paid N50,000 split as N10,000 for energy levy for transformers he knows nothing off and N40,000 levy before he could be allowed to bury his father or nobody comes in.
And on his part, Emma Ozue said he paid N50,000 before guests could be allowed into their compound to attend his sisters traditional wedding ceremony or nobody enters. He said he even arrested him on trumped up charges and took him to court. He alleged he formed his own vigilante security and about to crown a monarch.
The aggrieved youths want their lands returned to them and request that EFCC commence investigations into why their communal lands were sold using Odumodu Ebonabo which does not exist.  

Igwe Onyekwuluje escaped assassination attempt after men of the Special Anti-Robbery squad (SARS) foiled an attempt to murder  him by ten men from Umuleri and Aguleri allegedly hired by Umunya sons led by Ekene Okonkwo Eje and Chukwudozie Udemezue.

Those arrested and detained by the police over the planned murder of Igwe Onyekwuluje are Ekene Okonkwo Eje, Mmaduka Udemezue and Okey Emelife.

Others at large on wanted list now by police are Chukwudozie Udemezue, Charles Menankiti, Sunday Esedo, Ozoekwe Nwoye, Gregory Emeneogha, Obed Nweke , Denis Nweke, John Udokwu, Eric Morah , Patrick Oramulu , Edwin Nwankwo their native doctor and Ozoekwe Nwoye among others on the run.

  When contacted , Igwe Kris .C. Onyekwuluje, expressively shocked ,admitted plans to kill him for being a peacemaker for the progress and development of Umunya community was foiled but refused to speak further on phone with our correspondent as the matter is under police investigation. 
‘’Yes that’s true and I can’t believe this is happening....... I am a peacemaker and will stand by the peace......’’, phone still on but off on the discourse at hand.

Officer in charge of SARS, James Nwafor refused to speak but confirmed there was an arrest by the police and that there was an alleged plan to murder the Igwe of Umunya , Igwe Onyekwuluje but would not speak further and even directed this reporter to the state police command where the PPRO , Okechukwu Ali is in the better position to speak to the press on behalf of police command on efforts of the state CP Hassan Hosea Karma.
The PPRO Okechukwu Ali, DSP, could not confirm it as he said the DPO has not briefed him.

 The suspects were arraigned before an Nteje Magistrate court on a one count charge of conspiracy but was granted bail ‘hurriedly’ by the Administrative Magistrate Chukwudi Ibemesi.
Though his bail was on health grounds without medical report , the case was adjourned to 14th September, 2015 but shockingly one of the Chief suspects Ekene Okonkwo Ejeh allegedly threatened to deal with his accusers against the warning by the Magistrate that all parties should be calm over the matter. He said he came with 6 lawyers to get bail and would come with ten lawyers on the adjourned date.
