www.odogwublog.com reports that no fewer than 250 people were weekend in Onitsha, Anambra State granted amnesty by their national President, Chief Austin Omire Enyioma.
Granting them the amnesty during a general meeting of Ihioma Youths Association, IYA/Commemoration of one year in office of Onitsha branch chairman of IYA,Comrade Augustine Ijekwe Uzozie, the National President said, “it became necessary to grant the amnesty to all debtors of IYA nationwide to stop them from being absent from town hall meeting”.
According to him, “I have granted them amnesty so that the numerical strength of IYA members will increase and I enjoin branch executives of the 14 branches to hunt for more members to help develop our Ihioma Community that has been a pacesetter in Orlu Local Government Area, Imo State. He commended the Onitsha branch of IYA for its contribution in the community and urged them to expedite action towards the completion of her N50million three-storey hall building.
Speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Anthony Ifeanyichukwu, Onuoha, a manager at Ekenedilichukwu Group of Companies and President of Igbo Union, Okwei, Asaba, Delta State, said the bad economy may have caused some members not to meet up with the payment of their dues, which prompted the granting of amnesty to them by the National President.
His words, “the economy always changes and people may not meet up with their dues and that made the National President to grant them amnesty.“In IYA we don’t say we don’t need you. IYA is the father of all other associations in the community and as a father we have to pardon any erring members”, he stated.
On the three-storey building town hall in Onitsha, he revealed that it would gulp about N50million on completion.
Earlier in his address, the Onitsha branch chairman, comrade Uzozie, listed some of his achievements within one year in office which included, electrification of
the town hall and its fillings, fixing of iron doors and almaco windows, floor plastering, tilling of high table and installation of fancy blocks.
Others were, provision of standard toilet system, hall-amendment and office creation.
The chairman hopes to sink a borehole, stall generating set, renovate boys quarters, provide chairs and table, two entrance gates, drainages and launchIYA calendar to raise fund. In their various remarks, the president of the women wing of the branch, Victoria Egbuchilam Uriuma, Chief Felix Ozoebuka-former branch chairman, Joseph Emeredike, Innocent Okoro and Samuel Mbachu expressed satisfaction with the new executives’ achievements and urged them not to relent.
Highlights of the event was the honouring of some members of the branch with awards for their contribution towards the progress of the Onitsha branch by the chairman, Comrade Uzozie.
