2 Nigerians sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder, robbery in Qatar

Two Nigerian men will spend the rest of their lives in a Qatari Maximum Security Prison after they were sentenced to life imprisonment by a Doha Criminal Court for burglary and attempted murder after they robbed a Lebanese man and also attempted to murder him, local Arabic daily Arrayah reports.

The Nigerian criminals were sentenced alongside a Filipina maid who got a 22 year jail term for aiding them in their activity.

The court that the Philippine woman used to work for the Lebanese expatriate until she got acquainted with one of the Nigerians through Internet chat.

They later became online lovers and the Nigerian cajoled her into giving him the keys to the man's apartment, promising to marry her in the process and take her back to her his country.

The maid, apparently in love and scared of losing her 'lover' and 'husband-to-be', agreed to the deal and handed the key to the man when they later met and he made a copy of it.

When the victim was alone in the house, the two men entered the house, attacked the victim by beating him on the head with sticks until he lost consciousness. The culprits fled after stealing of his belongings including an ATM card, cash, gold watches and phones.

They were later traced when they used the ATM card to withdraw a large sum of money from a bank.

They both pleaded guilty to the crime when they were arraigned in court.
