UNIZIK: Ezekwesili charges Universities to Strive for Academic Excellence

Ezekwesili has charged the tertiary institutions in the country to carve a niche for themselves and strive towards academic excellence.

Dr. Ezekwesili, who spoke at the first annual lecture held on Thursday by the Faculty of Biosciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, emphasized that educational institutions holds the key to national development and economic emancipation of every society.

She further urged university Vice Chancellors to remain focus and innovative, stressing that inculcating quality entrepreneurial skill into the students will not only make them employer of labour, but wealth creators and agents of change as well.

Responding, the Chief Host of the Annual Lecture and Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku maintained that the university is a citadel of learning where students are been transformed academically and otherwise.

Earlier speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Bioscience, Prof.  Chibuzo Umeh, explained that the first annual lecture was aimed at honouring their staff who retired between 2010 till date.

Among the guest speakers at the event were Prof. Uche Amazigo, the Former Director of WHO/APOC, CEO-Pan African Community Initiative on Education and Health (PACIEH); and Prof. B.E.B Nwoke, Professor of Public Health Parasitology/Former Acting VC of Imo State University.
