Senator Ekwunife takes war to Buhari over 47 Boko Haram suspects

www.odogwublog.com reports that Senator Uche Ekwunife, representing Anambra Central Senatorial Zone has expressed concern over much speculated transfer of Boko Haram prisoners into various prisons across Anambra state and called on President Mohammadu Buhari to intervene before it leads to ugly situations.
Senator Ekwunfe condemned in highest term the transfer of the dreaded Boko Haram prisoners standing trials for terrorism in some North East states of the country into some prisons across Anambra state describing he can as a security risk that could bring untold economic hardship on the people of the state.
Senator Ekwunife further said that Anambra state has been one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria with its own peculiar security challenges often caused by menace of armed robbery and kidnapping, adding that the increased burden of Boko Haram inmates could lead to a more chaotic situations and hardship.
She drew the attention of the federal government and prison authority to the fact that all the three prison facilities in Onitsha, Ekwulobia and Awka were not Maximum Security Prison and therefore are not suitable for holding convicted terrorists.
Senator Ekwunfe said that Ekwulobia Prisons has a capacity to hold only 85 inmates while lamenting that at the moment, there are over 135 inmates in the prison before the transfer of the Boko Haram inmates into the prison facility without adequate security ntwork, saying that their presence could lead to deaths and cause economic hardship.
“I am saying this because the people of Anambra state have been at the receiving end of security challenges often presented by the menace of armed robbery and kidnapping and the singular move by the federal government to keep high level criminals like Boko Haram convicts would further heighten the level of insecurity in the state and by extention the entire zone”
“President Mohammadu Buhari should look into the matter with urgent attention because there are no mega security facilities to hold these inmates in a less secured prisons like what we have in the state and if you allow them, there could be a prison beak and these terrorists could unleash terror on my people”
“Unlike other locations where the terror-convicts are held in sparsely populated areas which makes their isolation from the people easy, Ekwulobia, Onitsha and Awka are densely populated towns. There is a very high risk of contact between these radical prisoners and the civilian population with an avoidable danger.
She further sad that the relocation of these prisoners to Anambra may not have paid adequate attention to the sensibilities of the country, especially the fact that some ethnic populations have suffered the most from the activities of these convicts across the North.
