Oshiomole gets knocks as ASUU fumes over demolitions

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomole
Edo State, Governor Adams Oshiomole, has been heavily criticised by the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which lamented the demolition of houses belonging to its members in the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

The union lamented the maltreatment of its members under the governor's watch.

It said alleged agents of government destroyed members’ belongings and forcefully ejected them from university building, ownership of which is being contested in court.

“It is unbelievable that the Edo State Governor code-named ‘peoples Governor’ could preside over a state where rather than providing homes for the people, legitimate owners are rendered homeless," the union said.

ASUU President, Nasir Fagge, appealed to the Nigerian Police Force to protect its members who are being threatened daily by the governor.

It will be recalled that between January 6th and 7th, protesting students of UNIBEN burnt a luxury bus belonging to the state government after alleged loyalists of the governor beat up their lecturers and demolished the house of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Godwin Osayuki Oshodin.

A week later, a coalition of about 200 students including students from all tertiary institutions in the state apologized for the incidence and expressed support for Oshiomole and even gave him an award, blaming the crisis on political 'agents of darkness'
