A NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisation known as Arrows Foundation has declared intentions to
accelerate efforts to end child marriage in Africa to enable the girl child achieve full potentials.
The cordinator of the organisation, Dozie Ekwunife who disclosed this at the celebration to mark the 2015 Day of the African Child at Nibo, Awka South LGA urged parents, teachers, the clergy and every member of the society to work together in preparing children for a better future.
Mr Ekwunife maintained that the theme of this year’s event “25 Years After The Adaption Of The African Children’s Charter: Accelerating Our Collective Efforts To End Child Marriage In Africa”, is apt as it raises awareness on the continuous need for improvement of education provided for the African children.
He commended teachers for their good work in moulding the children reminding them that God has made them stewards over the children.
In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, S.C Ndibe emphasised the effect of child abuse and early marriages on African children and urged parents, teachers and spiritual leaders to lead the fight against such.
Mr Ndibe further said that early marriages and other social vices if not properly handled might hinder a child from maximising his or her potentials.
Contributing, Ezinne Elekwachi, who spoke on the topic, ‘Sowing Seed For Great Future’, said that the reason for sowing seed is to have a great future and avoid regret at last.
Mr Kingsley Okoye, in his remarks, described Jesus Christ as the master seed sower and maintained that no matter the training given to a child without introducing Jesus Christ to him or her, his or her life will be in vain.
High points of the event which attracted schools from around Nibo area were drama, cultural dance and presentations from students of various schools.
