RESIDENTS of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state were shocked when a
group of gunmen believed to be cult members last Saturday, invaded their vicinity and shot an under graduate to death.
it was gathered that, the victim who was popularly known as Chiboy Nwangwu, a final year Public Admin student of Anambra State University, Igbariam, was murdered by the gunmen numbering about six, who came to the area with two motorcycles, popularly known as Okada.
According to our source, the victim returned home in the guise of coming to collect money for his up-keep at school that fateful day, although it was learnt that his parents had credited his account the previous day for same purpose.
It was alleged that the victim had been threatened at school by the cult group which necessitated his coming to his family in order to escape the impending doom.
Eyewitness account stated that the gang who came Saturday evening, marauding the resident of the victim spotted him when he came out of their compound to purchase corn from a nearby seller, rushed to where he was standing, alighted from the bike, pulled the trigger and released bullets directly on his neck and zoomed off.
The victim was said to have fallen on the ground and died on the spot as everyone around the scene of the incident took to their heels and scampered for safety.
When the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Uche Eze was contacted on the issue, he said he was not aware of the incident.
