Buhari charges on campaign issues

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, governors of the 36 states of the federation together with the members
of the national and state assemblies, have been challenged to implement their election promises to Nigerians, just as Willie Obiano of Anambra state was awarded pass mark.
The Bishop of Anglican Diocese on the Niger, Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, made the clarion call in the presidential address he delivered at the 3rd session of the 29th synod of the diocese held at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Ogidi, Idemili North local government area, Anambra state.
Bishop Nwokolo congratulated President Buhari for emerging victorious at the polls and also thanked God for the wise decision by the former President Goodluck Jonathan to accept the defeat to avert a major crisis in the country.
He also congratulated the Vice-Presient, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, newly-elected governor, senators, members of the House of Representatives and state assemblies with prayers for God to bless, guide and enable the President succeed in the fight against Boko Haram, corruption and unemployment which he swore in his inaugural speech.
The prelate, however, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take “concrete steps to avoid such occurrences” like late arrival of election materials, faulty card Reading Machines, teenage child voting, late night voting, ballot box snatching and violence in some areas which nearly marred the election adjudged free, fair and peaceful.
Commending Governor Obiano for the improved security situation in the state, Bishop Nwokolo thanked the present administration for taking effective steps to protect lives and property in the state.
The government also received a pat on the back for the right hand of fellowship the governor recently extended to the church, while Bishop Nwokolo applauded the assurance by Governor Obiano “to dismantle religious politics in Anambra state.”
He pledged the unalloyed solidarity by the church to continue to pray for the successful tenure and actualisation of the dividends of democracy by the elected leaders for the betterment of the masses.
The prelate seized the opportunity to express gratitude of the diocese to Ven Emmanuel Mbanugo and entire family under the aegis of Ezekiel and Mathilda Mbanefo Foundation Ltd, who built, equipped and donated the Alpha Radio and Television station to the diocese.
Major highlights of the synod were blessings of Ogidi land by Bishop Nwokolo, cutting of the bishops 48th birthday cake, official launching of fund-raisng for an ultra-modern administrative block at the Trinity Theological College to be sponsored by the diocese as well as voluntary donations which yielded over N50million, with the St Paul’s church topping the list with N10million.
