Boko Haram: Ekwulobia, Ezinifite Youths Defend Communities

Youths In Aguata Local Government, Where The Suspected Boko Haram Detainees Are Held Have Formed Vigilante Groups To Protect The Area.
Youths of Ekwulobia and Ezinifite communities in Aguata Local Government Area where the suspected Boko Haram detainees are held in Aguata Prisons, have resorted to self-help as residents of the neighbouring communities now live in fear of any eventualities.
They have reportedly armed themselves with machetes and sticks with the aim of defending the area against any possible attack by Boko Haram insurgents.
The youths numbering about two hundred have also formed special anti Boko Haram vigilantes and mostly operate at night in the two communities and some, including the surrounding communities of Uga and Amesi all in Aguata Local Government Area of the State.
The youths on Friday last week had condoned all the roads leading to Aguata Prisons, Ekwulobia during last traders’ protest which took place at Ekwulobia Township Stadium against the transfer of the insurgents to the area.
They were reportedly said to have searched and peeped into vehicles plying into the communities. During the weekend there was unconfirmed rumour that some Book Haram detainees had escaped from Ekwulobia prisons which necessitated the youths to immediately convene and formed anti Boko Haram vigilante.
However, unconfirmed story that the Boko Haram detainees had finally been transferred out of Ekwulobia prisons became rife, but no official has confirmed the rumour. Investigations gathered by this reporter, however, indicate that the detainees are still confined in the minimum security prison where facilities for such high profile inmates are lacking.
Repeatedly traders in Anambra State under their umbrella organization, Anambra Markets Traders’ Association led by Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo had consistently staged protests against the incarceration of the high profile detainees in Anambra State.
Chief Ezenwankwo and his group had advised the Federal Government as a matter of urgency to relocate the detainees to areas outside the South East to avoid polluting the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state.
