Tension as Obiano’s boys clamp down on media houses in Anambra, Impounds office Equipments … Over Alleged Non Payment Of Business Premises Levy
www.odogwublog.com reports that no fewer than 10 offices owned by various media houses have been
clamped down in Onitsha, Anambra State for allegedly owing arrears of business premises levy by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Commerce, Business Premises Registration Unit, Commerce Department.
The Ministry officials numbering about 10 reportedly commenced the clampdown Thursday morning with two vehicles.
At Champion office, they impounded one decoder and one Television set while at Punch Office a generating set and a Television set were removed by the officials.
In some of the media offices the officials were not able to get in because they were under lock and key.
In their seizure note to Champion office it read thus, “In pursuit of the Business Premises Revised Law of 1991, Section 25, subsection 1, the Anambra Ministry of Industry, Trade and Commerce in conjunction with Ocha-Bridge Enforcement Unit of Anambra State confiscated these items for failure to register/renew your business premises for year 2012 to 2014”.
Those who witnessed the impounding of the items expressed surprise that the Ministry could storm the media offices and impound their equipments at a very short notice and without regard to their function.
They said their next target is Awka, then Nnewi among others …………………
