www.odogwublog.com reports exclusively that the Chief Medical Director of Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, Anambra
State, Dr. Emeka Eze, hinted yesterday to the leader of Progressive People’s Alliance, PPA, in the State, Chief Godwin Ezeemo that the death toll of those who died during the fuel tanker incident that occurred at upper Iweka, Onitsha, about two weeks ago increased because of the stampede on the fateful day.
Making this disclosure when Ezeemo with his wife, Nneka, and the Party state Chairman, Comrade Ameke Mathias, called to sympathize with those victims that were hospitalized there, Dr. Eze added that there are still corpses, yet to be claimed by their relations because they could not be easily identified.
“Consequently, the State Government has sent pathologists who came and took samples of the dead”, Dr. Eze disclosed further.
The Medical Director commended both the State and Federal Governments for their prompt intervention when the incident occurred adding that it showed the present leaders have the interest of their people at heart.
He also attributed burns to the increase adding “we have deep isolation of the victims. They would have died if not that we isolated them. We heat up the rooms where they are kept because they have no skin in them and feel cold”.
Responding Ezeemo said he felt bad when he heard of the incident and resolved to come and see some of the survivors.
To avoid future occurrence he said that the state Government should look for an alternative location to avoid motor parks being located along the major roads.
“There should be a better way of narrating the parks to avoid further occurrence”.
Extending his sympathy to the Obi of Onitsha, HRM Alfred Achebe at his palace, Ezeemo urged him to use his position to prevail on the authorities to help look for better locations for motor parks instead of having them along the Expressway.
“I am here to condole you on the loss, I feel bad about it. I want you to use your position to appeal to the state Government to relocate the parks especially those at Upper Iweka”, he pleaded.
On politics the PPA leader disclosed that, “it has a procedure which when followed ushers in peace. Politics should not be seen as a do or die affair”.
In his response the Obi said opposition parties make the ruling party to perform, adding that, “it is the government in waiting”.
“You should not relent, don’t oppose with bitterness”, the Monarch stated.
