Tanker accident: Archbishop Okeke commiserates with family of victims , tasks Nigerians be at peace with God, man

 www.odogwublog.com reports that the Archbishop of Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha; Most Rev.
Valerian Okeke, yesterday commiserated with families of victims of Onitsha fire accident that claimed over 87 lives.

Archbishop Okeke enjoined Nigerians to use the tanker accident to reflect on the uncertainty and temporality of life.

Okeke said this on Wednesday when he led top members of the clergy from the archdiocese to the scene of the incident at Upper Iweka as well as Toronto Hospital, Onitsha to commiserate with the injured victims.

www.odogwublog.com recalls that 87 people lost their lives in the tanker accident on Sunday at about 3:30 p.m.

His words: ``Incidents like this show clearly the uncertainty and temporality of life.

``Thus, it is wise that everybody should always be at peace with both God and man so that we can be ready whenever death calls,’’ he said.

The cleric, however, advised motorists to be conscious of their speed while on the road so that they can be able to control the vehicle in case of emergency.

He further advised on regular maintenance of all automobile.  

The cleric, however, prayed for the repose of the deceased.

``I also pray that God will console the families of the deceased and for God's protection against further occurrence of such accident,’’ he said.
 Archbishop Okeke was accompanied to the visit by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese, Most Rev. Denis Isizoh and Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Asoanya.


Other in the entourage was the Financial Administrator of the Archdiocese; Very Rev. Fr Philip Ibeneme; the JDPC Director Onitsha Archdiocese, Fr. Edwin Udoye; Onitsha Archdiocesan Laity Chairman, Chief Ben Onyeka and host of sisters of the Catholic Church.

Highlights of the visit were prayers at the scene and in the hospital as well as lighting of white candles.
